Florida Lifts Sunscreen Bans

Key West cannot curtail sales of products with oxybenzone or octinoxate.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed SB 172, the move preempts all city and county efforts to regulate over-the-counter “proprietary drugs” and cosmetics to the state effective July 1, 2020.  Last year the Key West City Council passed a local law banning the sale and distribution of any SPF sunscreen protection personal care product that contains oxybenzone or octinoxate or both as of January 1, 2021.  In addition, several other local governments considered similar proposals.  SB 172 preempt...
